Courtyard Collection® FAQs
How is the Courtyard Collection different from the Carriage House Collection?
Both are steel doors with a carriage house look. The Courtyard Collection adds wood-grain textured trim boards over insulated steel, which gives a more dimensional design, and offers an R-value of up to 12.76. The Carriage House Collection uses an embossed wood-grain texture in a wide range of stained and painted finishes.
What does an R-value of up to 12.76 mean for my garage?
R-value measures how well a door resists heat flow, and a higher number is better. An R-value of up to 12.76 is solid insulation for a garage door, helpful if your garage is attached, heated or used as a workshop. Insulation can also make the door quieter. The exact value depends on the model you choose.
Do the trim boards need the upkeep that real wood does?
No. The trim boards have a wood-grain texture, but they are made to resist dents and the elements, so you skip the sanding, staining and sealing that real wood needs. A wash with mild soap and water a few times a year keeps them clean. Check the door hardware and moving parts once a year.
Is there a Courtyard door for high-wind areas?
Yes. Courtyard wind load models are built with polyurethane insulation between two layers of steel, with decorative overlays for the carriage look, and they are designed to meet strict building codes. See the Courtyard Wind Load page for details, or ask us whether your home calls for a wind-rated door.
What should I decide before ordering a Courtyard door?
Start with style: choose a design, color, windows and hardware that suit your home. Then decide how much insulation you need based on how you use the garage. Finally, have the opening, springs and opener checked for the new door. Call your nearest location or use the Schedule Service form to set up a consultation.
