How do I choose the right operator for my commercial door?
Match the operator to the door type and how hard it works. The RMX is a belt-driven medium-duty operator, the RSX is a standard-duty rolling door operator, and the RHX handles heavy-duty use. The CDX is made for counter doors, and there are explosion-proof and fire door models for special applications.
Should the door and operator come from the same manufacturer?
Yes, when you can. Industry quality guidelines recommend one manufacturer for both the door and the operator, because it improves safety and helps both the door and the motor last longer. Are Overhead Door commercial operators safety compliant?
Yes. Overhead Door commercial operators are UL 325 2010 compliant. UL 325 is the safety standard for door operators, and it covers protection against people getting trapped by a closing door. Keeping the safety devices working is just as important, so have them checked during routine service.
Can you add an operator to a door we open by hand?
Often, yes. Overhead Door makes operators for retrofit applications as well as new construction. Before installing one, we check that the door is in good shape and properly balanced, because an operator should move the door, not fight it. A worn or unbalanced door usually needs repair first.
Why does our commercial door stop or reverse partway?
The most common causes are blocked or misaligned safety sensors, something in the door's path, or worn parts that make the door hard to move. Check the opening for obstructions first. If it keeps happening, call for service and repairs; we fix openers and safety sensors on all brands.
